radiography at monash

Is the Bachelor of radiography and medical imaging course good at monash?
I don't really know a lot about it,and I'm kinda interested, so if anyone knows any details about this course it'd be very helpful :)
Is it easy/hard to get a job after you graduate? - is it easier than pharmacy?
What exactly do you learn about? medical physics? chem? how much biology
On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the boringest, how interesting is radiography.
Do you get good pay as a radiographer? (how much a year) Do most end up working in hospitals?
Are contact hours in uni long?
Does anyone know if you can you apply for grad med after doing radiography at monash?
That is all :D

I've got a friend who's doing this particular course, so I can tell you a bit. To answer all your questions, I'll have to ask her more next time I see her. But I can tell you, job prospects wise, probably easier than pharmacy (which has a lot of graduates). Contact hours is pretty long, she was in uni for 5 days per week, no exceptions. And I can tell you that you go to do work experience at hospitals at the end of each semester. My friend got sent to a rural area (like, near Port Philip Bay at semester 1), to X-ray people.

ok thanks for that :) oh sounds good then, cause I've heard that it's hard to find a job after pharmacy. In the VTAC guide it said only 45 people got offered the course last year. sounds like a pretty small cohort!
you know your friend, even though she was at uni a lot, did that reflect the hardness of the course? were the exams tough; is it a course where you have some people fail.

Yeah, the class is really small, and she said you actually get to make a lot of new friends, since you always travel together. Basically, it's like a mini med cohort. My friend actually lives really close to Monash Clayton, just like me, so her being at uni is no problem at all. She said exams aren't that hard if you're good at your sciences (apparently semester 1 was a bit physics heavy, in her opinon). But she did note that some of her friends failed units. Don't know whether from lack of studying, or maybe it's just not for them.

Well I live very very far from monash, would probably take me two hours to get there. damn should have went to that info lecture in open day to find out more. Is monash the best course for radiography? Any other unis that offer it?
I get pretty drained by physics too. I was kinda hoping that radiography physics would be better that the vce one :S Is there lots of maths involved by any chance?
oh and if you get an atar of 92.25 or over will you defs be offered a place. What if you put it as second/third preference for VTAC?
Thanks.

^As I said Hercules,  just gonna wait until my friend is up and running (lol, she's obviously sleeping now). I've shot her all your questions, should tell you all the answers in a few hours.  :D

Anyway, the radiography course is this one.

http://www.rmit.edu.au/courses/038191 or it could be http://www.rmit.edu.au/programs/bp148 :)

(I find their site to be a little confusing)

No idea whatsoever about UoM, don't think they have them.
Just joking, but it's a master's degree, so you'd be looking about adding 3 years adding to your bachelor's degree (I'm assuming it'd be a science degree from UoM).

K I'm out, be back in a few hrs.

hm that's radiology though. you'd need a med degree for that i think, before applying for that masters degree.

Prestige, if it exists at all for a technologist role such as radiography, is completely irrelevant in terms of prospects.

That's a big plus, especially given how many contact hours there is in radiography.

There's no radiography offered at Melbourne.

I agree, don't think so much about prestige, I reckon both RMIT and Monash will be an excellent choice for Radiography!

RMIT radiography is perfectly fine. I know 3 people that did that course and all managed to get jobs almost immediately after graduation.

If you have any specific questions about the RMIT course I'm happy to ask them for you.

Also it's Vege's second link - the Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Radiations) - that I'm talking about. I don't know what the other one is :P
