How is the ESL exam score calculated? (Why out of 400?)

How are ESL exam scores calculated?
I know the exam is out of 100
Section A 40marks
Section B 30marks
Section C 15+15 marks

Are the exams marked by 4 examiners?
Are they marked differently to English exams, because Section A and B is the same in the english exam?
Or do we just have a lower cut-off?

ESL (A+): 289/400 - 72.25%
English(A+): 47/60 - 78.33%

Are the examiners looking for a different structure in ESL exams? e.g. following TEEL stronger?

What is the difference in study score people would get if they'd do english instead of ESL?
What would a 35SS english student get, if he'd be marked as an ESL student?

It looks from the assessor report / exam criteria that the essays are still marked out of 10.

Here's the exam marking criteria too:
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/english/2009ESL-crit-descriptors.pdf

You can contrast it with the VCE English ones:
http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/english/2009Eng-crit-descriptors-V2.pdf

Naturally, since the courses are designed for different purposes, there is a considerable difference in what they're looking for when marking. You're still expected to show a detailed knowledge of the text and present ideas etc. for ESL.

I can't find anything regarding the calculation of it though.

So each session is marked out of 10, where do you get 30,40,15-15 from, Florian?  :o

I think he was looking at an exam dating from the old study design.

Edit: Ok, ESL is actually marked differently, much to my surprise.

That's the mark that it states on the exam cover.

It's the same for VCE English, the exam cover states 20/20/20 (total 60), even though each essay is out of 10.

Edit: Well for ESL it is on the exam cover 40/30/30 as per http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vcaa/vce/studies/english/pastexams/2011/2011engESL-cpr-w.pdf

but it looks like for Section C (language analysis) is split into Part 1 (planning) and Part 2 (actual piece). I'm not sure how the break down of that works though - it looks from the assessor report it's 10 for Part 1 and 10 for Part 2, but what they then do to add it up to 30, not sure.

I guess every piece of writing is marked out of 10, but Section A is 40% Section B is 30% and Section C is 15%+15%.

I still don't know why the exam is out of 400.

You dont need to know about that, just for ESL students though. In LA for ESL, we have to 2 parts: summary form and analysis essay

At the cover, its mark, not percentage. I get confused now. They mark out of 10 but in the cover says: 40/30/30
Btw, I have no idea how VCAA gets 400 marks from. Maybe I ask my teacher tomorrow

What marks would we need to obtain a 48+?
