my teacher said that at the end of the year, when external assessors are marking exams they have a sheet beside them with a school's cohort rank. If a person who ranked last gets the only A+ in the cohort, the examiners will disregard their SAC marks, claiming the teacher must just of been an idiot and thus a persons SACS can be bumped up significantly.E.g. from C+ to B+

one of my other teachers said that ' dont rely on SACs to get you good marks, at the end of the day exams are more important. If you get 100% on the exam, do you really think they would deny you a 50?'

 I don't know if they are making these comments for the sake of keeping up motivated or if they are really being legitimate.

I thought your ranking doesn't really change, if you're ranked last don't you get the shittest exam mark in your cohort but you always keep your exam mark.

ie last year in my further math class, i outranked two people, altough they achieved a higher SS than me since they both did better than me on the exam.

yeah thats what i meant, if you are ranked last you will get the worst exam mark in your cohort as your sac mark but your exam mark can't be changed.

I'd agree. your Exam MARK is entirely different from your SAC marks. Your Exam MARK has no bearing to your SAC marks at all (and vice versa.) Your SAC marks only change accordingly, to how well your school performed as a whole/overall. What results you get in SACs are different from the exam, where you are ranked against everyone doing that subject in the state. In the end, your exam whether it be mid-year and end-of-year or just an end-of-year exam counts for the MOST.

Being the top or bottom of your cohort will no have any bearing on your Exam MARK whatsoever. At the end of the day, it is only the individual and the individual alone who determines what their exam mark will be.

Yeah, that's what I've heard too.

The SAC ranking thing can be flexible.. if the exam mark of that student shows an unusual contrast to his SAC ranking, then VCAA might investigate it and look at the SACs he/she has done.

i.e. A student is ranked 1st in SACs but scored a D+ in the exams while many of the lower ranks get like A, A+.

I think this is done to prevent unfair biases from the teachers.

^they can also look at things such as students scoring low average sac marks ~ D+ etc, however getting high exam marks. they then will observe the students GAT, and come to a conclusion.
