English Sacs

In our school we have a very diverse distribution of marks among classes, with different teachers giving extreme marks, such as an B student getting an A and vice verse. Will sacs be scaled depending on each class? Only 3-4 essays from each class is crossmarked.

I wonder this too... in my class, average english students get 50% ish and the brighter english kids with really good essays will receive maybe a B+ at most... A very rare, NEVER an A+.

whereas other classes, their teacher passes out A's and A+'s like cheap 5c candy

at my school, i know that for methods, at the end of the year, the head of maths sits down and averages out all the sac marks and determines a ranking. Then she gives  you a % that she makes up depending on your ranking. so she says getting a C on a SUPER HARD sac could be equivalent to you getting an A+

Yeah it's so frustrating!
My school thinks that by not giving the prompts/topics ahead of time, we will be better prepared for the exam. Uh, problem. There are 4 English classes and they don't all run at the same time. So people tell each other the topics, or people squeeze it out of them. They then have the night or two to practise. And then they are ranked against those who had actually done all the planning IN the allocated SAC time. And I know this girl who was apparently "sick", and the English teacher favours her- gave her ALL the prompts so she can read through them at home, and ALSO she's bloody doing her SAC 2 weeks after everyone else. Wtf.
 I know you can't do anything about favouritism, and no one said that life is fair.... but seriously.

this is deadest exactly what happens at my shcool.
we did the sac .. the teachers and other students told everyone else the topic/promt and then they had an extra week to study it. .. no bloody wonder they all got 25+/30 and we only got 15-20/30

hmm..... This is kinda true, however at my school the teachers would give the prompt/topic of the essay or context to those students who are 'lacking' or falling behind like a week in advance and yet they would still get 15-20/30!

regardless when I get it, I suprinsingly still do very well ( 28+/30) :S

yeh at my school, all the y12 enlish teachers read each SAC and an average mark is given. this is a fair system

I swear English is the hardest subject to do well at in SACS. They moderate it on a 'bell curve' so sometimes you're unsure of how you actually did. My cohorts so hard.

Hate english. I would be doing so much better if it was not compulsory. So dull and boring. They say we need to have english compulsory because we speak, read and write english in Australia, but I don' see the need for it. I mean what language are our other subjects taught in?
