English was always my lowest priority throughout the year. However I always did about 3-5 essays before each SAC. In the week leading up to the exam I spent about 6 hours a day focused on just English. All up I did 6 full practice exams and though I crammed a lot before the exam, I actually improved the most during that one week than I did the whole year

LMAO, English is strange, in the whole year I only handed in 5 essays? And still got good ><

BUT, I think handing in essays is the BEST way to improve if you're getting C's and below, even B's

But i averaged A+ for every SAC, so it was kinda pointless ><

My friend was getting D's, he handed in around 5 essays before a SAC over the course of 2-3 weeks, and got a B on the SAC

VCAA must die. My Eng score was shocking :(

omg you are ridiculous - you got an okay score! ;)
you are making me feel bad with my scores as well as others.
i scored a 33 in English and i was happy and felt it was a good score.
Now, unfortunately thanks to your whinging, it has made me think otherwise.

I do feel better about getting my two 50s in Maths: Further and Methods.
xo
ps. do you like maths? (as your nickname states this)
i love it - my favourite is maths methods (calculus)

Yep I adore Maths. Unfortunately I got 49 for both of them rather than 50.

And no, I'm not "whinging". It's subjective. Maybe you didn't spend hours on Eng like I did and therefore for the time you spent, you feel satisfied with your mark. I'm not satisfied as I worked too much for the stupid subject and it didn't pay off. These are all subjective opinions. Take the James Lu guy - he got 99.95, yet he is opinionated about the VCE system. It just depends on our personal satisfaction. You should not be influenced by my values and goals and similarly neither should I by yours - your 50s for example, which are absolutely amazing, I can't seem to produce a perfect Maths paper like you have obviously done so.

In all cases produce a perfect paper is incredibly difficult no matter how smart you are at a subject. I managed to get perfect on my Spesh paper but not in Methods which is why my spesh score is higher than methods. However I was able to 100% plenty of methods papers, it's just on the day I wasn't able to. In fact I 100% about 10 methods trial papers and only 1 spesh trial paper yet on the day I did better in Spesh than methods

I fell in love with Spesh in the very first lesson of year 11 specialist. My teacher was awesome. He was so enthusiastic about it and his creativity towards problems motivated me to attempt to do well in it. In year 11 I read through various spesh papers and even did 2 year 12 papers in year 11. However almost 2 years ago I thought I would never get a 50 in Spesh, and leading to the exam I was still worried about it, but in the end I managed to do it :D It's funny how it turned out to be my only 50

Spesh looks so much more interesting than Methods. I hope the Spesh exam depends more on conceptual understanding and problem solving than Methods did. Methods was all about figuring out how to minimize errors for me, very little "fun maths" if you know what i mean.

I reckon if they implemented Polish maths in VCE it'd be much more interesting.

I heard that in china they do Specialist-level maths in Y11, then for Y12 they are required to tackle competition-level problems for their maths exams.

lol in China, they have schools specialized in training kids from a very very young age to participate in the IMO. They learn nothing but competition styled maths.

No wonder they always win.

On the other hand, the level of Chinese maths in secondary schools is almost the same as Australia, it is just that they go into detail in more specific topics rather than in Australia where we learn a variety of topics.

Eg, in China kids don't even touch on Calculus, here in Aus we learn calculus in year 10/11 or so.

I suppose that is good in a way because here when we learn Calculus we don't even understand the fundamentals of it, we simply we just know the integral is just finding the area under a graph or something - there is much more to it than that.

Ahah. The further I go in my studies, the less intelligent I feel :( Mainly because there's always SOMEONE out there smarter than you.

This is so true.  :(
At least there is the satisfaction of knowing that there is someone smarter than the person who is smarter than you as well! :P
