I received some info from TSFX.

The opening letter discusses the likely impact of the "Melbourne Model" on the ENTER at other institutions.

Their reasoning being, that VCE students are not putting Melbourne U as their first preference, thereby inflating the ENTER at other institutions due to increased demand.

What do you guys think?

I think that that was predicted to occur for this selection cycle as well (when they started their new model and cut 96 courses down to 6).

I haven't actually properly looked at the first round offer data compared to last years, and so I will probably get slapped for not doing that, but I don't think it had a big effect on things. All I know is that science at monash was about the same XD

for engineering @ monash it went up by about 3 ENTER  but @ Melbourne it went down by 2

What about for Medicine this year?

Is it expected that prospective Med students (who may well have gone to Melbourne) will pick Monash, making entry into Monash medicine even more difficult?

Or is post-graduate Medicine at Melbourne expected to be popular? (after completing the new generation Biomedicine degree)

Medicine will become cut-throat at Monash, believe-you-me. You should expect to need roughly the same UMAT for an interview because all med hopefuls interview at Monash regardless, but their selective UMAT, ENTER and interview scores should be a fair whack higher.

I expected there to be more change in the ENTERs of courses like law, but there wasn't really, nothing significant in any case. I would definitely expect Monash medicine 2009 to be a really difficult course to get into and it's possible that there will be flow-on effects throughout the whole country because of the reduced amount of places. I think graduate medicine at Melbourne will be a popular back-up option though, but I always think that if you do really well in your undergrad degree, why not go to a more prestigious uni overseas for a postgrad one. I suppose it's a bit different for medicine though.
