Title: VCE End of year revision lectures
Post by: costargh on August 26, 2008, 05:36:28 pm
I want to know people's opinions on the lectures I am considering going to and whether there are better ones etc

English
-Might go to Access Ed one at Monash Clayton
-Any others?

Business Management
-Might go to Access Ed one at Monash Clayton
-WANT TO GO TO ONE MORE... SUGGESTIONS?

Economics
-There are two lectures presented by the same company "commerce presentations and publications"... one is "Exam prep" and the other is "Course revision"... $30 each.... want to go to both.
Any others?

Accounting
-Access Ed didn't do much for me last time. Looking at going to one at Monash Caulfield that has 4 lecturers (4 hours) Viki Baron, Anthony Simmons and Keith King and some other dude. around 45 bux but some of those names are big in acc and it sounds good. Probz wont go to any other accounting lectures but feel free to make suggestions

Further Maths
- Don't really want to go to any lectures but will probz go to Access Ed cause of cost and convinience.... anyone got any better suggestions?

I'm thinking of going to VCTA ones for both economics and accounting... i'm too lazy to go all the way to melb uni twice >.< but yeah the ones by VCTA doesn't sound too bad =)

last time i went to the acct one at monash caulfield... vicky baron was good, anthony simmons just read out of his textbook basically, keith king was boring, n the other gal (whom they took off) didnt noe wat she was talking about. i'm not going back there lol.

$81 is a bit much for the methods
but i like the sound of VATE never heard of them, but definitely going
are there any for media studies? what are some recommended for psychology?

one question, does VATE supply notes?
Title: Re: VCE End of year revision lectures
Post by: rocothoco on September 07, 2008, 03:50:39 pm
Nah….at VATE, you apparently only get a few pages of notes for each book…that’s why they are soo cheap!!! :) but the discussion should be good because you mix with people from other schools who give you a different insight. also, my teacher got us in with the 'better' tutors/lecturers, so should be even better!

Hmm….I thought 81 was really cheap for methods n spec (only $13.50 per hour plus they give me the bound book which I’m going to use for the exam :) ) Anyways, its much cheaper than all the rest, especially tsfx and neap, so I’m happy! :) And its cheaper than my tutoring which is 50 bux an hour with a maths teacher who gives pretty limited notes  >:(.  Btw, I just received the preparatory questions for the program and they are amazing  ;D.

waste of time and money. the hours u sit listening is precious study time.

Haha. n the hours u spend posting on this site is precious study time  :P    And at least by going to the three days of lectures, I wont be wasting my time surfing the net like i'm doing now  :buck2:

Who knows? by learning his exam tricks, maybe I’ll get one of those 50s that he got :P And, I’ve still got 8 weeks - so one day at vate and another two at derrick ha is nothing. Besides, learning from this genius may motivate me and make the rest of the 8 weeks way more efficient (and I’ll save myself 2 weeks on writing 2 bound books :) ).

so you think that derrick is worth it?
would it be more beneficial if i went to something like access education or tsfx?

p.s. im really struggling at maths methods, hoping to get a study score of above 30 :(

Hell yeah. Judging by the quality of his website’s notes, the preparatory questions and my friend’s recommendation, I reckon that the lecture and revision book should be kickass too :). Not sure about access education because I’ve never heard of it. They could be decent. But, from what I hear from my uni friends, tsfx doesn’t quite live up to the hype.

Does Derrick Ha offer tutoring as well or is it just that one lecture?

Has anyone here done the 'intensive courses' from TSFX for Methods or Spesh?

I'm in Yr 11 btw

I went to the intensive classes for both methods and spesh in semester 1.
Personally, i didn't find them very beneficial. I guess it just wasn't my learning style.
But yeah, i guess it depends on the individual.
Basically, when u do those classes... ur just paying for their notes, some extra questions, and to listen to them explain how to work them out.
I think i study better on my own... so yeah...wasted A LOT of time and money on those classes :(

Is it group tutoring? And are the extra questions harder than your typical spesh question or are they just sort of similar to what you get out of books?

Yeah it was group tutoring. About 15-20 people in a class, depending on which class you attend.
And hmm, i think the questions are like the 'interesting' or 'challenging' questions you may find in a text book. And sometimes they include questions which are supposed to resemble exam type questions :)
Truthfully, i didn't really pay attention in class and i haven't looked over the questions...so hmm...don't trust every word i say :P haha

Hopefully this isn't too late BUT can someone help me with booking lectures...I want to go to English, Legal and Psych lecures but i have no clue what's the best, not looking to spend much money and don't REALLY need notes for Legal or Psych. AcessesEd, VATE, TSSM, whats the best??? Help would be great!...

TSSM is very expensive, along with NEAP and TSFX. AccessEd is the cheapest...VATE is mostly booked up I think.

well does it necessarily HAVE to be the best? :s like the "best lectures" were meant to be booked some time ago. anyway its better going TO A LECTURE then no lecture at all yeah?

theres a free lecture for legal studies at vic uni. first thursday of school holidays. but u have to book a placement the website is like.... vicuni/freelectures or something. try check it out. im positive there is one for psych too.

Bullshit. The "best" lectures still have places available. No lecture I've ever shown an interest in going to has ever been booked out
