Can anyone shed some light on wether lecture programs such as the ones provided by; tssm, tsfx, acess education etc. are helpful, and ultimately which company is best.
personally thinking about a possible mid year biology lecture, if anyone has done one for this or any other subject let us know how it was.

cheers :)

I heard that Access is good (at Clayton atleast) I went to 2 of theirs for psychology last year which were pretty good, but not sure about sciences.

TSSM is a royal waste of money.

TSFX I head is pretty good [never been to one, not a fan of their marketing]

Access Education is a lot cheaper than all the rest, and the handouts are also less as useful [powerpoint slides, and mostly useless]. However, I find the lecturers quite good, though the things they cover is very basic, they accompany very awesome explanations that allow you to understand concepts better.

NEAP is a lot more expensive, though I definitely recommend their chemistry lectures. Comprehensive notes, excellent revision material. But to make sure you use it wisely, it's better to attend the first lecture. Their physics, on the other hand, isn't really worth it... (pay a lot less for Access Ed and get basically the same stuff... in power-point form)

I personally did not like Access for biology unit 3. It might've been because it was after school and I was drained though. I didn't like how it was covered/presented; it seemed useless to me.
TSFX Biology unit 4 was much better in comparison (just a bit more costly). I think the one I went to was the 2 or 3 days long ones.

I found the notes more useful than the lectures (both), but it's different for everyone - I find it hard to focus on learning in a crowded environment.
(also, TSFX notes are more comprehensive than Access Education's ones).

It also depends on which lecturer you get. Some like to rush through the content and cover everything briefly, others may drone on and on about the same thing for a while longer (but in more detail).

EDIT: TSFX English end of years were pretty good too. Opinions were here:

I still standby this -
Mr. Anthony Coyne from St. Kevins was awesome.

I went to some TSFX ones, and some free ones at Vic Uni. Out of all the ones I went to, the ones I found the most useful were the Economics (TSFX) and Physics (Vic Uni) ones. Eco had this guy who was kinda short (from maz... something) and liked ladytron and the mighty boosh (Y). The free physics one had the same guy who did TSFX Physics, but it was only one session, so he didn't get to cover everything. Still, seeing him and his demonstrations gave me a glimpse of what having a competent physics teacher was like.

Yes, their marketing is a little over the top in my opinion.

I went to the lectures for TSFX only because Greg Wilmoth is one of the best physics teachers around.  I like his teaching style - quite passionate (especially with motion).

The TSFX Methods lectures were pretty good as well although the lectures in Summer School went too long - 4 hours if I remember properly.  The only thing about Methods is that if you're looking to extend yourself with application problems, then TSFX is not the best.

For Chemistry, their notes are pretty comprehensive and have a few good questions in there although I found some of the lectures a bit draining.

All in all, if you're considering TSFX, it's not a good institution to turn to especially if you know you struggle understanding the theory for maths/science subjects.

I haven't attended any other lectures by other institutions so I can't comment on them although I have heard good opinions of NEAP lectures in general.

I agree that TSSM is not very good. I haven't personally been to them, but I have heard of people falling asleep in the lectures.

I found AE @ ACU and Clayton 2 b good, but was a bit disappointed with the Geelong 1s.

The free VU Legal Studies lecture was absolutely amazing - that guy ruled... Accounting was boring tho - I left during the break @ half-time.
I don't think VU offers such an extensive range of free VCE lectures anymore tho.

J/W, the revision/exam style questions they give you, are they different to the ones that you might find in checkpoints + past exams?

Yea, i have personally been to tssm Summer school and i cannot complain too much about it. They had only 3 hours(working time) to get through the whole of unit 3. So it was pretty much a skim through. Their notes were somewhat useful, but I highly recommend making your own.
