Could someone please explain to me why there are almost no trolls or rude childish people on this site (unlike Bored of Studies)?
Or do such people not come to the university section?

As someone who moved from Sydney to Melbourne, I have to say that Melbourne is far better in every way :D

There are some, but we try to ban them before they get to spread their crap :P (Also Nina is scary, so people don't mess with her).

I'm glad you're finding it great to live here! Hope you keep enjoying it :)

Tempted to go tomorrow to join some clubs and get more freebies but I don't need to be in the city until like 6 and if I pick up free stuff I have nowhere to put them but inside my stomach.

Went to RMIT today and got a whole bunch of free gym passes and 20% gen pants co vouchers and other stuff.

I walked through the Clubs and Society stalls on the South Lawn for literally 5 minutes - timed it, between 11:35 AM to 11:40 AM - and picked up this stuff. That's not close to all of it, I picked up double the amount later on just by walking over to Union House (the Christian Student Union gave me broccoli juice. Broccoli juice. Jesus would approve? <3). I didn't register for any clubs or join any queues, they just shove free things in your face. It continues tomorrow on South Lawn, highly advise y'all to stop by if you're on campus.

Jaffy here
Just wondering, do you usually meet mates during lectures and tutes? and are they usually friends from your course or do they vary between faculties?
I didn't really meet any of my fellow biomeders properly this week and just kinda hung with school friends. Rookie mistake I know.

Same here, I didn't meet anyone. Everyone seems to already have friends from school (and hang out in groups of 3) so I didn't bother trying to be friends with them. Would be kinda awkward to walk up to a group (of 3) and say "Hi" LOL

By the way, how do we sign up for clubs? I also want to make a gym membership, how much does it cost and is the gym any good or should I go to a real gym?

Total personal opinion but I bloody hate it when people save seats and shit for their friends in lecture theatres because then all they do is talk to their friends all the way through the lecture about how much booze they drank on the weekend and what subject they are allegedly going to fail and the rest of us have to put up with it.  They also hold up the lecture starting sometimes because they're too busy trying to find their friends in a room of 600 people.

Tutes are kind of the same, you do tend to make friends in tutes though because they are smaller.

AHAHAHA that's exactly how I felt. I was hanging out with a few people from my group on the first day of o week, but we didn't have any of the same interests, so we haven't talked since. I'm going to be alone forever now :'(

Seriously though, I think you'll meet most of your friends in the clubs you join. Well that's what I'm hoping happens for me anyway :P

I wouldn't panic haha, when I was a Jaffy I really only hung around my school-friends during O-Week. You really start making connections with people in tutes, labs, and to a slightly lesser extent, lectures. I'm 100% sure you'll make new friends!

I belong to the MU Mountaineering Club, the Squash Club, MU Biomedical Eng Socitey, women in Science and Engineering (they don't do heaps), and Engineers Without Borders. Those are pretty interest specific though. I've never joined any of those odd ones like "pizza appreciation society!"
If I had time I'd join one of the board game ones though.
