Title: Further Maths Revision Notes!!!
Post by: magnum on August 27, 2009, 04:39:06 pm
hey, just wondering what resources are recommended to use for preparation for the exams (i.e. good revision books, textbooks, etc) and in preparation for our revision notes/bound material?  ???

use checkpoints for practice questions and if there are any which you have a problem with then put it in your bound material. then just do heaps of practice exams

This.

Its important that you understand the course content. I know that the text-books have endless questions about each topic- and that's great for building the underlying foundation. But if you want to get good marks in further, you have to go beyond those text book questions and start doing practice exam questions. Whether that be from checkpoints (past VCAA questions structured in regards to topic), neap or any other exam company- it doesnt really matter. By now you should have finished checkpoints and went back to the text book to re-learn or reinforce the sections you weren't too confident with (eg. revising seasonal data, 3 median line (any other sections in the core that we all hated learning and didnt pay too much attention to). And around about this time you should be going through practice exams, trying to get most of them right. In a few weeks, the focus will shift from; not only trying to get things right, but also to gain critical speed.

For your bound book; you should have a book from the start of the year which has all the concepts you had trouble with as you were doing them. If not, go through exams, and everytime you aren't confident with a question- chuck open a text-book and review it...then chuck it into your bound notes. (you'll notice that by chucking it into your bound notes, the next few times you come accross similar questions you wont refer to the bound notes because you have actually learnt it).

For revision- EXAMS. Simple as that.

Let us know how you go/ if you need any help.
